Yllas
Situated in Kolari in the western part of Lapland, Yllas comprises two Lappish villages (Yllasjarvi and Alkaslompolo) and seven fells. Yllas ranks among Finnish Lapland's highest fells and is situated at a height of 718 metres. Being Finland's and Lapland's largest resort, Yllas is also home to Finland's longest runs. For excellent skiing and a memorable Lappish experience, Yllas is a great destination in Finland.
Attractions
The splendid village of Akaslompolo situated on the northern side of Yllas is a major attraction of the resort. The serene Yllasjarvi village on the resort's southern side offers scenic views of the country side and an opportunity to get familiar with the culture and tradition of the locals.
The Pallas -Yllastunturi National park is a prominent landmark in the resort. The third largest National park in Finland is home to many rare species of animals and birds. St. Lauri's Capel situated in the village of Akaslompolo and the charming Lainio snow village are the must see places in Yllas.
Skiing
Around 320 kilometres of trails facilitate a great cross country skiing experience for the visitors. 38 kilometres of trails are illuminated, thereby providing a perfect setting for night skiing. Finland's longest downhill runs can be found in Yllas that has around 29lifts and 61 slopes.
The slopes of the resort are best suited for the beginners, while the intermediates and the experts have a few challenges waiting for them in the slopes. The longest slope is 300 metres long and the resort facilitates exceptional off-piste skiing. Yllas also has many slopes exclusively meant for children. The resort is equipped with ski schools that teach novices the basics of skiing.
Activities
With a snow park, Snowboard Street, two terrain parks, numerous jumps and two half pipes, Yllas is a snowboarder's haven. Other activities that tourists can indulge in are snow shoeing, hiking, kick -sledging, snow mobile safaris, Icelandic pony safaris, husky and reindeer safaris, swimming, skidooing, river rafting, cycling, fishing, canoeing, river boat tours, sleigh rides, indoor climbing and unwinding in the saunas during their stay. For some quality time with friends and family, the campfires organised in the resort are ideal. Lapland, considered Santa's hideaway allows tourists and kids to explore the land during the Santa excursions.
Apres Ski
A gamut of bars and restaurants ensure that the travellers have a nice Apes ski experience in Yllas. Julia's Bar and Kaivohuone are two major haunts, which are filled with live music and dance, during the evenings. The Akas Hotel in the resort has a nightclub, bar and dance floor for the visitors to enjoy their evenings and nights.
Food
The restaurants in the resort serve the tradition Lappish food along with international delicacies. The specialities served include the Finnish meat delicacies, ptarmigan, arctic char and other Finnish dishes. Dishes made with salmon, mushroom, berries, reindeer meat, etc are popular among tourists and locals alike.
Child care
The Kindergarten in Yllas offers childcare for toddlers as well as kids aged one to eight. The ski schools offer classes for children from five years of age and have indoor facilities, outdoor facilities and children's lift to help them learn skiing. The resort has a 'magic forest' terrain area especially for the young ones. Children below seven years of age can ski for free and are provided with a free helmet.

During a stay in Yllas, tourists can buy souvenirs, gifts, Lakkalikoori (Lappish cloudberry liquor) and cloudberry jam from the stalls and shops, there.
