Oberau
A cozy Austrian village, Oberau is situated in the Wildschonau valley. Located close to Innsbruck, the resort is set at an altitude of 830 metres. Tourists can accustom themselves to the authentic Austrian village life during their stay at Oberau. The old world rustic charm of the village is untainted by the modern developments. Specimens of Tyrolean architecture, historically important buildings and the Church of St. Margaretha enhance the beauty of the picturesque resort. Oberau offers a rare mix of sporting activity, relaxed atmosphere and tradition.
Ski
Found at a height of around 935 metres, Oberau is home to 10 kilometres of pistes that have 10 lifts. An integral part of the Wildschonau Ski area, the resort offers access to downhill skiing that extends upto 65 kilometres. The Ski Lift Pass allows the skiers to indulge in skiing and snowboarding in the neighbouring Wildschonau resorts like Auffach, Niederau and Thierbach. Ski buses also link the resort to the neighbouring resorts.
Oberau's skiing area is perfect for the intermediates and beginners. The slopes are gentle and easy to negotiate for the novices. The long red pistes of Oberau provide the intermediates with a few difficult areas to steer, through. Advanced skiers do not have much scope at the resort except for the International Ski Federation Campionship run and off-pistes. Though Oberau caters to advanced skiers with a bunch of black runs, the neighbouring resorts of Niederau and Auffach offer plenty to the expert skiers.
The Ski schools at Oberau offer good training and employ skillful English-speaking instructors. The ski schools offer kindergarten services for children above four and under ten years of age.
Though the altitude ensures good snow conditions throughout the year, for maintaining consistent and reliable snow throughout the year the resort has invested in snow cannons. About 25 cannons ensure that Oberau enjoys better snow conditions in all seasons.
Partake
Tourists also have plenty of activities apart from skiing at the resort. Oberau offers winter pursuits like sleigh rides, tobogganing and ice skating. The beautiful idyllic surroundings of the village of Oberau have many splendid hiking trails for the hikers to explore. Bowling, tennis, snow shoeing, skidooing, swimming and paragliding are other events that visitors can participate in. The historical sites in this charming Tyrolean hamlet offer glimpses into the past of the resort.
Enjoy
The traditional and quiet ambience of the resort ensures a pleasant stay at the resort. Like any Austrian resort, Oberau with the impressive line up of restaurants and bars offers a lively Apres Ski scene. However, the fact remains that Apres Ski in Oberau is less lively compared to its neighbour Niederau. The nightlife at Niederau is very active with plenty of entertainment and fun.
Quality accommodation for the tourists is provided by the private rooms, mountain huts, holiday apartments, exotic furnished holiday houses and hotels that assure exceptional service to the boarders. The relaxed atmosphere at Oberau is a striking contrast to the hectic life in the cities, so tourists make the most of their time at the resort.
Family fun
Situated in a tranquil corner of the Alps and nurtured in the Wildschonau valley, Oberau offers an ideal setting for the families. The resort is ideal for families for getting up and close with the Austrian way of life in villages and enjoying their time at the resort, thoroughly.
