Hochgurgl
Flanked by glaciers and lofty mountains, Hochgurgl is an integral part of the Oetz valley. Situated at an altitude of 2150 metres, the resort is linked directly to Obergurgl through a cable car. Hochgurgl and Obergurgl make a ski area that covers over 110 kilometres. One of the highest resorts in the charming country of Austria, Hochgurgl has good snow conditions and long ski season. The slopes of the resort cater to skiers belonging to all levels. A great family destination, Hochgurgl is ideal for skiing throughout the year.
Skiing
The ski area of Hochgurgl covers over 54 kilometres and poses a gamut of challenges for skiers with mixed ability. Beginners can polish their skills by practicing on the Gaisberg lift, Practice lift and Mahdstuhl lift. The Schermerspitze ski run in the resort allows the skiers with intermediate skills to explore their capabilities. For expert skiers, the Mogul slope at Top Wurmkogl in the resort poses many challenges. The cross country skiing trail covers around 12 kilometres of challenging slopes and can guarantee a memorable time for the skiers.
The ski area of Hochgurgl and Obergurgl areas are equipped with advanced snow cannons that ensure excellent snow conditions, any time of the year. In Hochgurgl, around 10 kms of the ski area is splattered with artificial snow. The computer-programmed snow making cannons begin to work once the temperature and humidity has reached a certain level. The sterile drinking water used to produce snow is taken from the Gaisberg valley.
Both the Obergurgl and Hochgurgl ski resorts have reputed ski schools. The Hochgurgl ski school has around 30 skillful skiing instructors, who introduce visitors to the exciting sport of skiing and help the novices to polish their craft. The ski schools impart special courses on cross country skiing to all.
Partake
During the summer months, visitors can enjoy archery, guided hikes through the craggy terrains, mountain tours, climbing, Nordic walking, excursions, mountain biking and tennis. If tourists visit Hochgurgl resort during the winter season, they can partake in sports like ice-curling, ice-skating, snow shoe hikes, mountain hut evenings, cross-country skiing, squash etc. Night skiing under the floodlit runs can be thrilling and adventurous for any one. Any time of the year, the travellers can participate in billiards, table tennis, etc and enjoy the memorable moments at the bowling alley and library. The snowboarding facility, with Terrain Park, half pipe and quarter pipe offers a great setting for the snowboarders to indulge in their passion. The hikers can enjoy the high mountain routes that are highly challenging and demanding in the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl area.
Apres Ski
Hochgurgl offers a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere for the tourists. Restaurants in Hochgurgl serve delicious local dishes and international cuisine to the visitors. Mountain restaurants cater to the tired skiers after hours of non-stop fun and thrill. The nightlife at Hochgurgl is kept low key with just two discos and a few bars. Holiday apartments and chalets focus on providing all kinds of comfort to the tourists at reasonable prices. The Hotels and restaurants also ensure complete entertainment for the tourists.
Shopping
Tourists can throng the souvenir shops to collect the traditional craft of the region. The sporting goods shop and snowboarding shop offers an array of sporting items and gadgets for the locals and the tourists. Boutiques in the area showcase a gamut of choices of apparels to choose from.
