How To Spot Swine Flu?

Swine flu or H1N1 flu is an influenza virus of type A, which is normally found in pigs. It is a form of respiratory disease. Though swine flu can pass from person to person, individuals who directly come in contact with pigs can also be affected with H1N1 flu.

This influenza virus, which originated in Mexico is evolving rapidly into an actual global pandemic. In general, swine flu symptoms are just like those of the winter influenza. However, the main difference is that huge outbreaks of influenza do not occur during the months of spring or summer.

Guidelines For Recognizing Swine Flu:

1. If you are unfortunately exposed to a person suffering from swine flu while traveling, symptoms immediately may arise within four days of exposure. Usually, chills and sudden fever are the initial symptoms of this flu. The body temperature of affected individuals remains between 104F to 100F for many days. Miserable body aches accompany the fever. The degree of muscle aches directly depend on how fast the temperature increases and thus, varies from one person to another.

2. Affected individuals will always experience profound fatigue and weakness, even though the intensity of the body temperature may vary from person to person. The weakness and fatigue arises, as the body makes use of nearly all its energy to get rid of this influenza virus. Even if all the symptoms of swine flu have been cured, the body fatigue can last for one to three weeks. It is necessary for swine flue affected individuals to get a lot of rest, nutrition and fluids, so that the body can recuperate completely.

3. Though normal winter influenza does not cause any gastrointestinal symptoms, swine flu virus has the ability to cause diarrhea, vomiting and nausea in some patients. Dehydration can also arise, if patients are not treated aggressively with re-hydration fluids.

4. The typical symptoms of cold such as head congestion, runny nose, dry cough and scratchy throat are also extremely conspicuous with swine flu. Although these symptoms are annoying, they do not weaken individuals greatly like the symptoms of swine flu do.

Thus, it is relatively simple to spot swine flu symptoms. Usually, home remedies are effective in eliminating the infection. But, the medical complications can occur occasionally that may drastically deteriorate your health. It is therefore important to consult a doctor immediately, if you experience any of the swine flu like symptoms.
