What You Can Do On A Budget Of £500 (Including Spending Money)

The question, what you can do on a budget of £500, including spending money, seems to suit this new period of economic austerity.

Now, of course, it’s a different ball game if you’re one person, as opposed to a family. So these suggestions are mixed between one and two people traveling, and sometimes the family as well. They allow some room for spending money, although with many holidays you can get an all-in price which means you won’t have to spend a dime, if you don’t want to.

The first suggestion is an all-inclusive week’s hotel stay in the Dominica Republic which comes in at just under 500 big ones per person. At this sort of price, including flights from London, all you need do is to sit back and soak up the action.

Bit too far to fly, then how about a ferry across the channel and a weeks family forget-it-all break in France’s Dordogne? Okay, so the Dordogne is not known as Surrey for nothing, but if you don’t mind bumping into your fellow countrymen every few minutes, then this is the break for you. Gorgeous countryside, heart-stopping food and chateaus aplenty, all contribute to a holiday which won’t hurt the piggy-bank.

Now, if you fancy the ferry bit, but not the French bit, then how about looking at some of the cruise holidays? Believe it, or not, 500 notes can get you very far. Some of the Mediterranean cruise companies will give you, as an individual, 14 days, flights, taxes, accommodation, meals and entertainment. At that price, you might not want to consider getting off. Just live on the boat, it might be cheaper than coming back home.

Need to be on firmer ground, then how about Scotland; can’t get much firmer than that. Cottages in certain parts of the less popular, but nonetheless beautiful parts of Scotland, can be got for under £400, and they can often sleep up to six people. Now that’s an incredible deal for those wishing to experience life in the Highlands and Lowlands.

Using the same principle that a house, villa, or cottage can give you greater value, then how about Tuscany? For under £500 for two, a villa in one of the most sought after places in Italy, including travel, is just the sort of seven-day break that will might need through the coming months.

Feeling less European, then how about trying Jamaica, which you can just reach for under £500 per person, flying out at the start of the new year and absorbing all its joys for seven days? The Caribbean for under £500; does it get much better than that?

And just a word on creating your £500 holiday. You can either go for the all-in, inclusive deal, or, like when the kids buy their sweets, you can mix and match. Putting flights together with accommodation, and using the power to barter, can set you up for a tremendous holiday and one that won’t break the bank (something they’ll thank you for).

What you can do on a budget of £500, including spending money, is really very encouraging.
