Hong Kong
Hong Kong, the throbbing City of Life in South East Asia, is vibrant, irrepressible and poignant in its glamour and beauty. Formerly a British colony and today a part of China, Hong Kong is extremely entrepreneurial and is booming with an affluent population of 6.8 million in 1,102 square kilometres, posing as one of the most dynamic cities in the world!
Sights of Hong Kong
Even within its compactly packed area, Hong Kong plays host to a plethora of incredible tourist attractions that inspire awe. Stunning cityscapes interspersed with daunting mountains and evergreen countryside leave the visitor with a very vibrant picture of Hong Kong.
The Peak offers spectacular views of the city, its harbour and the mountains yonder. Visitors are advised to take the peak tram and enjoy the scenic splendour. Victoria Harbour offers the perfect postcard shots, while Causeway Bay is famous for being the most dynamic district in Hong Kong with its shopping centres catering to middle and upper classes. From Windsor House in the east to Times Square in the west this is a fashion paradise leading the young world; while Central Hong Kong is reputed for high end restaurants, pubs and shopping centres for the affluent. There is something for everyone in Hong Kong.
The Golden Bauhinia Square, Convention and Exhibition Centre and Central Plaza in Wan Chai are contrasting amidst their physical proximity. Giant Buddha, the world’s tallest outdoor seated bronze statue in the Lantau Island along with the Po Lin Monastery should offer a vacationer a rich cultural and religious experience alike. Hong Kong is an experience in diversity and uniqueness, and it can be felt even during the few hours of transit. Holidaying in Hong Kong, a discerning tourist is able to discover a myriad of diverse and exciting things, be it entertainment, shopping or dining, and these all go to keep the family and kids enthralled for their entire stay.
Activities in Hong Kong
Hong Kong may be best known as a shoppers’ paradise as shopping malls and designer stores vie for the visitors’ attention, but it also offers a host of other things to do as well. Visit the great museum, busy walks and places to wine and dine; or alternatively take an architectural detour of the city to see the old colonial building, pray at the Man Mo Temple and the Wong Tai Sin Temple, take a boat ride in the Aberdeen Harbour or even indulge in the Museum of Art with its more than 14,000 exhibits preserving the artistic heritage of the Chinese – the options are too many. Amusement in the Oceanpark and Waterworld (not far from the harbour) and long nature walks in this hi-tech metro are other leisure options. Two thirds forest and farmland around create an interesting contrast.
The Hong Kong Dinner
Often called the culinary capital of Asia, Hong Kong boasts of more than 11,000 restaurants offering the best of Cantonese, Chinese, Asian and Western cuisines. Dim Sum is wide range of Chinese snacks that one cannot miss in Hong Kong. The fresh sea food is a distinctive culinary experience for the westerner, available steamed, fried or grilled in meticulous style.
This Pearl of the Orient should be an ideal stop over for the migrant tourist who wishes to delve into the Far East.
